For…Getting Back to Delaney

What was the theme of book? What do you think the author was trying to get across to the reader?

Delaney and Tyler both had to learn something in order to grow. What did they each learn and how did the Amelia, Rose and Gwen, help them on their journey of discovery.

The location of Getting Back to Delaney was Venice Beach, with its art district, the ocean and the homes along the canal.

What was unique about the setting/location and how did it enhance or take away from the story?

Did the characters seem real and believable? Did you relate to their predicaments? To what extent did they remind you of yourself or someone you know?

How did characters change or evolve throughout the course of the story? What events triggered the changes?

For…The Write Man for Her

Brant Wilson had a secret. How did you feel about him BEFORE his secret was revealed? Did how did the way you felt about him change after you understood why he was a recluse?

When Jessica discovers Brant’s secret she has to do some major soul searching. How would you have reacted and would you have continued to pursue the Professor?

Did certain parts of the book make you uncomfortable? If so, why did you feel that way? Did this lead to a new understanding or awareness of some aspect of your life you might not have thought about before?

Everyone loves Cath. Why was the character of Cath so important to the book?

Brant lived on a houseboat in Marina Del Rey. Many readers have wondered if this was realistic. During the author’s research, she found someone just like Professor Brant Wilson living on a houseboat in Marina Del Rey. She was also inspired by a wheel chair bound flight instructor. Did this book make you reevaluate your thoughts on what wheelchair bound people can and cannot do?

For…The Magical Man List

Besides “finding your soul mate” what is the theme of The Magical Man List?

How does baseball play a part in the story?

Even though this is a work of fiction, therapists are recommending The Magical Man List to their single clients. Why do you think that is?  How could the making of a wish list help someone find their soul mate?

What is the importance of ceremony in the book? How does creating a ceremony change a wish list into something more powerful than a simple To Do list?

Sam has two inner voices, Goodie and Lauper, who constantly argue in her head. How did the two voices help Sam make decisions? If you were to give names to your inner voices, what would you call them?
